Bio:
Joshua Brill is
a healing artist devoted to using music as a medium to facilitate inner peace,
expand awareness, and raise consciousness. A mystic, a musician, and a yogi,
Joshua creates music that uses the sacred laws of vibration, a deep energetic
awareness, and advanced looping technology via guitar and laptop to create flowing
waves of expansive soundscapes that transform space.
Joshua’s musical accompaniment for yoga practice is a delicate balace
of healing ambient guitar textures and supportive dowtempo grooves. It creates
a dynamic energetic container that allows for transformation and deeply healing
experiences.
Weaving sacred laws of vibration, modern technology, professional musical training, and a deep energetic awareness, Joshua is able to create music in the moment that instills peace, harmony, and balance.
Joshua has performed and supported yoga practices across the US and internationally. Artist Statement:
Music is the Universe singing. By tuning into this vibration, we then become one with the infinite manifestations of reality. My role as a musician is to be a sympathetic being to the divine voice, so that I may grace others with universal resonance. My aim in this lifetime is to raise peace, consciousness, and awareness through music.
Yoga and Music:
Playing for yoga classes is one of my favorite musical experiences. It allows me to find a deep sensitivity to the energy and flow of the class that enables me to support the class and teacher, rather than call attention away from practice. the function of this music is to support the space and keep the attention directed inward.

"I've had the honor and pleasure to play with Joshua Brill many times. Besides being an amazing groove meister, he also has the ability to create a sound-net that at once is both enveloping and melodious, and yet so intrinsic that you may not even know it's there sometimes. Not an easy thing to do. I dare say his sound is healing!" -Joey Lugassy (Kirtan Artist)
"Joshua Brill has an innate sensitivity to the energy in the room and responds accordingly through his largely improvisational music of rich textures that feel both ancient and modern. His presence is strong but quietly contained and is a joy to collaborate with." -Kate Duyn (Yoga Teacher)
“Joshua's evolving soundscapes both guide and follow the flow of a yoga class, creating a mood that feels almost other-worldly. The room is transformed by his music and it's a delight to practice yoga accompanied by a musician who has such a deep respect for the tradition.” -Kerry Maiorca (Yoga Teacher)
On Music:
I see music as an objective presence in the universe that requires a musician to act as an interface to allow music's presence to exist on earth. Once music comes into empirical existence, an audience is necessary to complete the triad of creation: active (musician), passive (audience), and neutral (music). With this in mind, I view my performances and productions as a co-creation between myself, the audience, and music. When this harmony of three is achieved, the roles of active, passive, and neutral become one and music comes to life.

Your Body as a Sacred Instrument:
Opening the Third Ear
Everything in the universe is in motion, which means everything has a specific
frequency and rhythm. By learning to hear and feel our own unique inner frequencies
and rhythms, we can then tune ourselves to the music of the universe. When we
are in tune, we become open channels to the universal sound that is the fabric
of all existence.
Through the practice of music, we are able to tune our attention, awareness,
and consciousness to the inner music that is universally present. When we are
in tune with ourselves, we are in tune with the universe and we then live in
harmony.
Yoga of Music will offer the practitioner techniques to develop deeper levels of awareness through the practice of music. We will explore how to establish a musical practice using techniques such as chanting, mantra, breathing, divided attention, movement, meditation, and other familiar yogic practices. In addition, the participant will learn how to find their own inner frequencies and how they correspond to their chakra system.
